What Rendering & Plastering Services Do We Provide?

We provide external rendering (silicone render, monocouche, K-rend, cement render, and lime render) and internal plastering (skim plastering, dot-and-dab, lime plastering, and plasterboarding) for residential and commercial properties across Brighton and East Sussex.

External rendering protects your building from weather penetration while dramatically improving its appearance. The right render system — chosen for your property type, exposure conditions, and aesthetic goals — provides decades of low-maintenance weather protection.

Internal plastering creates the smooth, durable wall surfaces that define the quality of interior spaces. Whether you need a full re-plaster of a renovated property, skim coating over plasterboard in a new extension, or specialist lime plastering in a period home, our partner Fullers Plastering delivers exceptional results.

Masters Group coordinates rendering and plastering as part of our wider construction services — ensuring these finishes are applied at the correct stage of the build programme, on properly prepared substrates, and in appropriate weather conditions.

What Happens When Rendering & Plastering Is Done Poorly?

Failed external render is one of the most visible and costly defects on a property. Cracking, delamination, and water ingress behind render causes damp, mould growth, and progressive deterioration of the underlying masonry. Stripping and re-rendering a typical Brighton house costs £8,000–£15,000.

The most common rendering failure is applying the wrong system to the wrong substrate. Cement render on a soft brick Victorian property traps moisture and accelerates decay. Modern silicone render applied without proper preparation cracks and detaches. Each substrate requires a compatible render system.

Internal plastering failures — bubbling, cracking, and debonding — result from poor substrate preparation, incorrect mixing, or application in unsuitable conditions. Replastering rooms is disruptive and expensive, requiring removal of all fittings, floor protection, and redecoration after completion.

Timing errors compound rendering problems. Applying external render in frost, heavy rain, or direct sunlight causes premature failure regardless of the system quality. Internal plaster applied before a building has dried out adequately will absorb excess moisture and fail.

    Our Process

    How We Deliver Every Project

    1

    Assessment

Inspection of existing surfaces, substrate identification, and assessment of exposure conditions and insulation requirements.

    2

    System Specification

Selection of the appropriate render or plaster system for your substrate, exposure, and finish requirements.

    3

    Surface Preparation

Cleaning, repair of defects, application of bonding agents, and installation of beads, mesh, and insulation where specified.

    4

    Application

Professional application of render or plaster in controlled conditions — correct thickness, proper curing between coats.

    5

    Finishing

Final coat application to specified texture and colour. Internal plastering finished to a smooth, paint-ready surface.

    6

    Quality Check

Inspection of all surfaces, remediation of any defects, and handover with maintenance guidance.

Why This Matters for Your Project

    Weather Protection

External render provides a continuous protective barrier against rain penetration, reducing damp risk and extending masonry lifespan.

    Dramatic Visual Improvement

Rendering transforms the appearance of tired, dated, or mismatched facades into a clean, modern, unified finish.

    Thermal Performance

External wall insulation (EWI) render systems combine insulation and weather protection — reducing heating costs and improving EPC ratings.

    Low Maintenance

Silicone render systems are self-cleaning and resist algae growth. A properly applied system requires virtually no maintenance for 20+ years.

    Period Property Expertise

Lime render and lime plaster for listed and period properties — allowing walls to breathe while providing weather protection.

    Specialist Partner Network

Our partnership with Fullers Plastering ensures every internal plastering job is delivered to the highest standard by dedicated specialists.

Rendering & Plastering: Systems, Materials & Specifications

Silicone render (also known as silicone thin-coat render) is the premium choice for external rendering in Brighton. Products from K-rend, Weber, and Parex offer excellent water resistance, breathability, and self-cleaning properties. The system typically comprises: adhesive base coat, reinforcement mesh, primer, and silicone finish coat in the chosen colour and texture.

Monocouche render is a single-coat through-coloured render that provides a simpler, faster application than traditional multi-coat systems. It is applied in one pass at approximately 15–20mm thickness. Popular products include K-rend Silicone TC and Weber Pral M. It is best suited to new blockwork substrates.

Lime render is essential for period properties — particularly Brighton's Regency and Victorian buildings. Unlike cement render, lime render allows moisture to pass through the wall (breathability), preventing the trapped moisture problems that cause damp and masonry decay in older buildings. We use NHL (Natural Hydraulic Lime) renders for external applications.

Internal skim plastering uses gypsum-based plasters (Thistle Multi-Finish, Thistle Board Finish) applied at 2–3mm thickness over a base coat or directly onto plasterboard. A skilled plasterer achieves a perfectly smooth, paint-ready surface in a single application. Our partner Fullers Plastering delivers this consistently across all our projects.

External Wall Insulation (EWI) systems combine rigid insulation boards (typically 50–100mm EPS or phenolic foam) mechanically fixed to the wall, with a reinforced render finish. This provides thermal insulation, weather protection, and a fresh appearance in a single system. EWI can reduce heating costs by 20–40% and significantly improve EPC ratings.

Rendering costs in Brighton range from £40–£70 per square metre for silicone thin-coat render, £30–£50 per square metre for monocouche, and £80–£130 per square metre for EWI systems including insulation. Internal plastering costs £15–£25 per square metre for skim coat over plasterboard.
